The days of stuffing keywords into bad content and having it rank are long gone. Now your content needs to focus on your target persona and your keywords need to flow within the content. Many years ago, Google put together its search quality team, which is responsible for ensuring users get the best possible user experience by making sure that key signals of quality websites align well with results on search engine pages. Their job description is straightforward “A few hundreds of millions of times a day people will ask Google questions, and within a fraction of a second Google needs to decide which among the billions of pages on the web to show them — and in what order.” Keyword research is something that needs focus and attention. It’s something you should take seriously. Without proper keyword research, you could well be optimizing your texts for the wrong search terms. There aren’t many free, intuitive programs that give you the kind of super-valuable information that Google Analytics (GA) does.

Schema mark-up is a requirement for your content

Spam links often go both ways. A website that links to spam is likely spam itself, and in turn often has many spam sites linking back to it. Unlike some aspects of the mysterious Quality Score “secret sauce,” we know that Google takes landing page relevance into account when calculating Quality Score There is no minimum amount of words or text to rank in Google. You have to keep in mind that in order to have people purchase or sign up with your products and services, you have to convince them first. You would know if a person is almost convinced if he is constantly revisiting your site from time to time. To have a person revisit your site, you need to give him reasons to; and, one of which is by providing the site with new and updated content.

The worst advice I've heard about rankings

If you want people to link to you, make it easy for them. Create HTML ready snippets that people can plug right into their content to link to you, because some linkers in your community might not be too web savvy. I suggest either creating a "Link to Us" page or by using a little JavaScript to generate the HTML at the end of each article or post. Ideally, you should undertake keyword research well before you choose a domain name, structure your site, and build your content. A search engine results page (SERP) typically contains 10 Web results for a query. Make sure that your site’s structure and hierarchy are as clear and logical as possible, with your homepage as the “root” page (the starting point).

Focus on performance, user experience, and social media

Keywords should be relevant. This means your site should be a satisfactory destination for users. Once visitors are on your site, an important goal is to keep them on your site. You don’t want your visitors immediately bouncing back to Google once they have read something on your site. SEO marketing can be a very powerful tool for generating massive passive traffic. But if you use it incorrectly, you’ll end up doing more harm than benefit. We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "If you just launched a website that sells jeans, it’s nearly impossible to outrank The Gap for “jeans” related keywords."

How do you feel about analytics now?

Google has been trying to understand social. Redirect chains are not to be confused with redirect loops, which is where URL A redirects to URL B then URL B redirects back to URL A. Negative SEO techniques pop up in a variety of unseemly forms. Some are mild and develop over time, while others are immediately noticeable. People are using voice search for local search especially when people are on the go. It is therefore important to optimise for local listings if you have shop/restaurant/bricks and mortar business.
